Gio faces sharpened Rangers daggers as fed-up Ibrox fans spot new shirt sponsor irony - Hotline

The leader in the blue corner is under increasing pressure with huge question marks over direction and competence.

That’s the opinion of the Hotline - and they’re not talking about Liz Truss despite the Prime Minister’s coat being on an increasingly shoogly peg at Number 10 just six weeks after moving in.

For a large portion of Rangers fans Gio an Bronckhorst ’s reign in the big house at Ibrox should be brought to an end after another underwhelming display in the 1-0 cup win over Dundee saw the team booed off. It’s not just the Dutchman in the firing line either with the Light Blues hierarchy also accused of failing in office. Neil Renton, Edinburgh, who said; “It’s little wonder that Rangers fans are booing the players. The team are about as convincing as Liz Truss is as Prime Minister.”

Jamie Thompson, Clydebank, blasted: “Enough is enough. It’s clear Van Bronkhurst’s tactics and players he signed are just not good enough. The current team and sporting director Ross Wilson are nowhere near good enough. The lack of concern from directors is a serious worry, they need to act now.”

Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, said: “Rangers were pathetic and were rightly booed off the park against a mediocre Championship Dundee team who towards the end could easily have won the game themselves. The board, Wilson and Van Bronkhorst must go, between them they have created the worse team I've ever seen in my lifetime, there is no skill, no quality, no stamina, no speed and no creativity on and off the ball.”

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellon, said: “An underwhelming display from Rangers. The players had 'Zero% Mission' displayed on their shirts but I don't know if that's meant to be the sponsor or the team's overall motivation for this season.”

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “You know you’re in trouble when boo'd from the park. The team is down in confidence, not helped by distractions. Kent wants away to the EPL and our problem child Morelos gives all his online fans coded messages in Spanish. Kent and Morelos want the best of both worlds, for them loyalty is a meaningless word and maybe the club should give Alfredo a message in his favourite language - ‘adios amigo, muchas gracias’. No one is bigger than the club.”

Tonight’s the night for VAR to make it’s big entrance to Scottish football in Hibs’ clash with St Johnstone.

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, reckons it was required in Celtic’s 4-0 thrashing of Motherwell on Wednesday where Liel Abada’s opener was scored while team mate Aaron Mooy was laid out with a face knock.

Scott said: “Twice in as many weeks Celtic have taken the lead when a player was injured, surely if VAR was involved against Motherwell the referee made a clear and obvious mistake before Celtic scored their first as there was clearly a player on the deck with an obvious head knock.

"Rules are rules and there's a serious problem when officials don't apply these rules and allow a team to score. The fact there was more than a minute’s treatment needed after the goal suggests the officials were clearly in the wrong. Role on VAR.”

Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: “How can we expect VAR to improve our game when our officials can’t administer the rules of the game in a consistent manner. Last weekend one official refused to book players that went into the crowd after scoring and, even worse, failed to take action against a player, already on a yellow card, for raking an opponents achilles which resulted in them having to leave the game. If simple, blatant indiscretions are simply ignored through either incompetence and/or bias then there is little hope.”

Finally, Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, had a word of support for Neil Lennon. He said: “Lennon’s reward for taking Omonsia Nicosia into Europa League and making history by winning the Cypriot Cup is the sack for sitting seventh in the domestic league. Well Lenny you did well there so now it’s time to come back to these shores and hopefully a bigger club will snap you up and show us what we have missed. Your talents were wasted abroad, you are up there with the best characters in football management and a born winner.”
