Gini Wijnaldum drops hint over future amid Arsenal and Tottenham transfer rumours

Gini Wijnaldum has suggested he is happy at Paris Saint-Germain despite being linked with Arsenal and Tottenham in recent weeks.

The Gunners were touted as a 'potential destination' for the Netherlands international by Sky Sports last month, while Spurs have been linked with a swap deal more recently with PSG said to be eyeing Tanguy Ndombele.

Wijnaldum only moved to Paris last summer after his contract with Liverpool expired, but it seems as if the Dutchman has found it difficult to settle in the French capital.

Speaking in October of last year, the 31-year-old admitted it had been a "difficult" start to life in Paris.

He said: "I can’t say I’m completely happy. The situation is not what I wanted. I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit and also did very well.

"This is something different and that takes getting used to. I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.

"That’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around."

However, speaking to PSG's official Twitch channel on Wednesday, Wijnaldum thinks the settling in period with the Ligue 1 leaders has gone well - suggesting he is happy with his start at the club.

"My integration went well," Wijnaldum said. "I was coming into a new club and a new league. I am learning from my team-mates and the coaching staff every day, and they have all helped me to fit in.

"We are getting to know each other a bit more every day. I am also learning French, which is important for me in terms of fitting in."

What's been said on Wijnaldum's future?

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, via the Daily Mail, claimed earlier this week that Wijnaldum is a long-term admirer of Arsenal and would relish the opportunity to play at the Emirates Stadium one day.

He said: "The situation is Gini Wijnaldum is out injured at the moment. He's not going to come out in public and say, 'I want to leave PSG', because you wouldn't want to spoil your relationship with the fans.

"But what we're being told is he would like to return to the Premier League. I'm not saying he wants to return today, this week or even in the summer, but he would like to return and we keep being told he would like to play for Arsenal.

"They're a club he admired a lot when he was growing up. It's definitely something that appeals to him.

"If PSG were to sign Ndombele on loan, would they let one of their midfielders go? Would Wijnaldum then become an option for Arsenal? We know Arsenal are looking for a midfielder. PSG have consistently said, 'we don't want him to leave'."
