Gini Wijnaldum contract situation addressed as Barcelona linked with Liverpool transfer

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Gini Wijnaldum's contract position remains unresolved amid reports of interest from Barcelona.

Wijnaldum is in the last 12 months of his deal with talks over a new agreement having reached an impasse.

No discussions have taken place for a significant period, prompting speculation the 29-year-old could walk away from the club for nothing next summer.

Reports in Spain have indicated former Holland boss Ronald Koeman, who has this month taken over at Barcelona, wants to take the player to Camp Nou this summer, although no official move has yet been made.

And Liverpool boss Klopp said: "It's an open contract situation, obviously, otherwise we would know about it (what's happening).

"And that means we don't talk about it. I never have done during press conferences, so why should I change now?

"It's all between us and the player. It's all good at the moment, all fine.

"He has looked very good in pre-season and has played a couple of good seasons for us. That's all I can say about that."

Wijnaldum will be part of the Liverpool squad that travels for the Community Shield against Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday.
