Giants suspend Janoris Jenkins indefinitely for violating team rules

The Giants have suspended Pro Bowl cornerback Janoris Jenkins indefinitely for violation of team rules, the team announced Tuesday. The suspension takes effect immediately, meaning Jenkins will miss Sunday's home game against his former team, the now-Los Angeles Rams.

"As a member of this team, there are standards and we have responsibilities and obligations," Giants coach Ben McAdoo said. "When we don't fulfill those obligations, there are consequences. As I have said before, we do not like to handle our team discipline publicly. There are times when it is unavoidable, and this is one of those times."

Jenkins is the second player _ and second Pro Bowl cornerback _ to receive such a suspension from McAdoo within the last three weeks. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was suspended for one week for unspecified violation of team rules, including his leaving the facility when the team was required to be there.

The Giants are 1-6 and heading into their final nine games during which there will be plenty of attention paid to how the team reacts to unexpected adversity in a lost season that once held promise of a possible Super Bowl run.

Jenkins, cornerback Eli Apple and running back Paul Perkins were not in attendance when the team returned from its bye week for practice Monday in East Rutherford.

McAdoo said all three players were excused for personal reasons and expected to be back with the team at practice Wednesday.

"At that point, neither myself nor any of the coaches had heard from Jackrabbit [Jenkins]," McAdoo said. "I did not speak with him directly until Tuesday morning."

The Giants have indicated that Jenkins was informed of the suspension on Tuesday. McAdoo said that he will review the status of the suspension at the beginning of next week.
