Giants’ Sterling Shepard: Kyler Murray is best player in 2019 NFL Draft

If wide receiver Sterling Shepard had his way, the New York Giants would select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and that has nothing to do with his views on Eli Manning.

Rather, Shepard feels Murray is the best overall player in the draft and would be beneficial to the Giants as Manning’s eventual heir.

“He’s been successful at every other level. In High School, he didn’t lose a game. He’s a winner and he’s got the attitude for it,” Shepard told The Checkdown. “His play stlye kind of reminds me of a Baker Mayfield/Russell Wilson.

“The best player in this draft, I think, is Kyler Murray. I gotta go with the hometown guy.”

As an Oklahoma alumni, it’s no surprise that Shepard would ring the bell for Murray, but it’s not as if the Giants’ receiver is alone. Many believe Murray is the best overall player in the draft, which is why he’s widely expected to go No. 1 overall.

If Murray were to somehow fall to the Giants, it would be a no-brainer for general manager Dave Gettleman to call his name, but that scenario seems wildly unlikely.

Whatever the case may be, we know where Shepard stands and what input he’d offer the Giants if asked.
