Giants safety Logan Ryan tests positive for COVID-19, likely to miss game vs. Bucs

NEW YORK — Giants safety Logan Ryan is going on the COVID-19 reserve list after testing positive for the virus, coach Joe Judge said Friday.

Ryan, who is vaccinated, would need to be asymptomatic and receive two consecutive negative PCR tests 24 hours apart in order to be cleared in time to play Monday night at Tampa.

But Judge said this looks like a confirmed positive, which would make Ryan’s availability against the Bucs unlikely

“I would not say this is a false positive at this time like we had last week,” Judge said.

Ryan first tested positive Thursday, per Judge. Vaccinated players only have to test once a week, so Ryan tested Monday but again on Thursday.

The coach said Ryan did not experience symptoms that prompted him to get tested Thursday. Circumstances surrounding him led him to test a second time and discover the positive.

“It actually was not him,” Judge said. “I’m not gonna go into specifics of his personal situation but it was something that drew an alarm to get him tested beyond his once a week.”

Several members of the Giants’ secondary are unvaccinated, including starting free safety Xavier McKinney and corner Adoree Jackson.

Judge said he moved Friday morning’s meeting virtual to guard against a spread, but that all players would be at practice Friday other than edge rusher Lorenzo Carter, who is out a third straight day with a stomach bug.
