Giants CEO Larry Baer involved in altercation with his wife

Giants CEO Larry Baer caused his wife, Pam, to fall to the ground during a scuffle in a public park Friday in San Francisco's Hayes Valley that was caught on video.

The physical altercation was captured on video by a witness and published by TMZ. Video shows Baer approaching his wife and trying to grab a cell phone from her. While wrestling with her, Pam is shown falling out of her chair and onto the ground while screaming, "Oh my God! ... Help!"

Baer was shown pulling a cell phone from his wife's hands and, after securing the phone, walking away while imploring his wife to stop screaming.

Baer later told the San Francisco Chronicle he is embarrassed about the incident.

"My wife and I had an unfortunate public argument related to a family member and she had an injured foot and she fell off her chair in the course of the argument," Baer said. "The matter is resolved. It was a squabble over a cell phone. Obviously it's embarrassing."

TMZ reported that the person who filmed the altercation attempted to get involved and break up the fight. Despite the loud fight between the couple, the police were not called to the scene as at least one witness was able to settle things down.

TMZ reached Pam Baer afterward and the CEO's wife downplayed the incident.

"We were having a family fight about someone in my family and that's it," she told TMZ.

When asked for their reaction, the Giants declined to comment on the Baers' fight.

MLB, when reached for comment by the Bay Area News Group, said "Major League Baseball is aware of the incident and, just like any other situation like this, will immediately begin to gather the facts. We will have no further comment until this process is completed."

The Baers released a joint statement later Friday afternoon in which they both reiterated their regrets about what happened.

"Regrettably today we had a heated argument in public over a family matter. We are deeply embarrassed by the situation and have resolved the issue," they said in the statement.

Baer has been involved in the Giants ownership group since 1992 and helped the organization capture three World Series title. He was elevated to CEO in January, 2012.

The ugly public scene Friday comes one day after Baer and the Giants suffered a tough free-agency loss when star outfielder Bryce Harper chose the Phillies over San Francisco.
