Giant Greene learns his fate over Heeney head hit

GWS captain Toby Greene has been slapped with a one-match ban for a hit on Isaac Heeney, but it looks as though his questionable taunt of Tom Papley might go unpunished.

Greene was cited for diving in with a late forearm to the back of Heeney's head during the Giants' 44-point win over Sydney on Friday night.

The strike was assessed as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, with Greene to miss next Thursday's crunch clash with the Western Bulldogs unless he can successfully challenge the one-match ban.

Greene's hit earned the ire of football fans on social media.

He was also criticised for his verbal swipe at Papley during a half-time interview.

Papley had angered Greene by running straight at the GWS star to let him know about a goal he had just kicked.

Greene fired back during a half-time interview, saying: "He's looking overweight, we'll see how he goes second half."

There was no mention of Greene's comments when match review officer Michael Christian handed down his findings on Saturday.

Sydney coach Dean Cox was measured when asked about Greene's comments.

"I think people, when they speak in the media, generally are really calculated to opposition players. Some players push the boundaries a little bit - Toby's probably one of those," Cox said.
