Ghost of Yotei star says Sucker Punch is "bold" to "leave behind safety and comfort" to tell new stories with fresh characters, but the actor doesn't know "what might come next"

Atsu sheathes her sword in Ghost of Yotei.

2025 open-world banger Ghost of Yotei established Sucker Punch's Ghost series as an anthology, featuring a brand new protagonist, setting, and time period, meaning it's pretty safe to assume we won't be getting a new game starring Atsu any time soon. In an interview with GamesRadar+ for the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, Atsu actor Erika Ishii opened up about what it's like saying goodbye to their character after just one game. The bad news is they're "sad" not to be able to play Atsu again, but the good news is they're pretty certain Sucker Punch will deliver yet another great game.

"[Sucker Punch] made two banger games. Here is the thing about Sucker Punch, is they never miss," says Ishii. "Even before that, with the Infamous games, with Sly Cooper, they never miss, and I don't anticipate them ever missing again.

"I mean, I'm just so honored to be part of the legacy of the Ghost. Truly. While it is sad not to be able to return with Atsu as a playable character, I love an anthology."

Sucker Punch definitely seems like a studio never content with resting on its laurels. Instead, it seems to like to establish popular series with a handful of entries and then move on to something wildly different. The online multiplayer mode Legends launched for Ghost of Yotei last month, but the studio has yet to drop so much as a tease of what's next. In Ishii's view, moving on from the world and characters of Yotei specifically is a "bold" move.

"I think it's… really bold of them to leave behind safety and comfort in order to tell new and interesting and exciting stories with new people," Ishii says. "So, I'm grateful to be part of the legacy of the Ghost, but I'm so excited to see where the Ghost manifests next. Because I actually don't know, and I'm trying to grill other people for details of what might come next, and they won't tell me."

So, it's definitely another Ghost game, you say? No, Jordan, don't let the intrusive thoughts win. More likely, Ishii is simply making an educated guess like the rest of us. I'd personally love to see another Ghost game that expands even further on the ideas introduced in Yotei, especially since Yotei feels like such an evolution from Tsushima, itself a beautiful and worthwhile open-world game.
