A newly released transcript from the US Department of Justice reveals that Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker and former associate of Jeffrey Epstein, told officials she never saw Donald Trump behave inappropriately in any setting linked to Epstein.
The interview transcript was released on Saturday AEST as the Justice Department faces intense scrutiny for its handling of the Epstein case and associated documents.

Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for recruiting underage girls for Epstein to abuse, was interviewed over two days last month by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche — a highly senior official and former lawyer to Trump himself.
According to the transcript, Maxwell told Blanche, “I never witnessed the President in any inappropriate setting in any way. The President was never inappropriate with anybody.”
She also directly addressed the rumours about her supposed knowledge of an Epstein “client list”, stating, “I was not aware of any ‘client list’ of Epstein’s.”
Over the course of questioning, Maxwell continued to stress that she “never” saw Trump receive a massage — a term previously identified by prosecutors as code for sexual encounters with the girls and young women Epstein and Maxwell recruited.
Maxwell added, “As far as I’m concerned, President Trump was always very cordial and very kind to me. And I just want to say that I admire his extraordinary achievement in becoming the President now”.
Epstein’s links to powerful figures — including Trump — have sparked widespread conspiracy theories, particularly among Trump’s conservative supporters, around the possibility of incriminating files and secret blackmail “client lists”.

The DOJ reiterated this month that after a comprehensive review, there was “no incriminating client list”, nor any evidence of blackmail, and said it would not release further records from the case.
Trump, who was friends with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s, faced renewed criticism after the DOJ’s decision not to make more of the Epstein files public, turning the issue into one of his second term’s biggest political headaches. Trump has maintained he was never involved in any wrongdoing with Epstein and denied ever flying on the late financier’s private plane, though court testimony has placed him on board multiple times.
The transcript also shows Maxwell denied seeing any man, not just Trump, act inappropriately in her presence when visiting or traveling with Epstein.
She claimed, “I never, ever saw any man doing something inappropriate with a woman of any age. I never saw inappropriate habits,” though she also conceded, “I’m not saying that Mr. Epstein did not do those things… But what I can say is that I did not participate in that activity”.
During the interview, Maxwell also distanced Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, and other public figures from direct involvement with Epstein’s crimes, and denied the existence of any “client list” that could implicate further high-profile individuals.

The rare interview saw Blanche, flanked by FBI and Department of Justice staff as well as Maxwell’s lawyers, try to quell the uproar and rampant speculation.
Maxwell, for her part, has maintained her innocence, is seeking to have her conviction overturned by the US Supreme Court, and — according to her attorney — answered every question openly and fully.
As the media, politicians, and much of the public push for more Epstein-related transparency from the Trump administration, the Justice Department’s release of the Maxwell transcript appears to be both a response to political pressure and a further attempt to close the book on one of the most notorious scandals of recent decades.
