Getting out of bed is top reason people hate Mondays

Getting out of bed is the number one reason why over half of Brits dislike the day more than any other. Nearly two-thirds of Gen Z workers voted Monday as the worst working day of the week.

Residents in Cardiff have the toughest time on a Monday morning, with two-thirds (66%) revealing they find the start of the week the most difficult. Following closely behind are Birmingham and Edinburgh at 64% and 62% respectively.

When it comes to what UK workers think would make their Mondays better, whilst a lie-in tops the list (36%), having a freshly brewed coffee (30%), receiving a small act of kindness (30%) and listening to their favourite music (25%) are the small things that make the biggest difference.

To help people Love Mondays, Simon Wingate, Managing Director at Reed.co.uk, shares some of his top tips for candidates looking for a role right now:

  • Figure out what you want to do. Whether you are progressing into a more senior role, are looking to try your hand in a new industry or just want a change of scenery, knowing what you are looking for is important as it’ll all inform your job search. If you don’t know where to start, consider how your skills, interests and priorities match up with the typical tasks of the roles you’re interested in before creating a list of all the potential job titles you’d like to include in your search
  • Tailor your CV. In a competitive market, capturing the attention of a hiring manager quickly is more important than ever. You don’t need to write an entirely fresh CV each time, you only need to tweak sections such as your personal statement and skills, to make sure you’re ticking off the requirements of the job description
  • Check back daily. New jobs become available every day and submitting your application quickly is vital if you want to beat the competition. Spending a small amount of time each day checking job sites, employer websites and social media pages will ensure you stay up to date with the latest vacancies on offer
