Germany heatwave sees Cologne residents cool off in mist

Authorities in the German city of Cologne provided public water sprinklers to allow people to cool off as temperatures reached 35C.

Video from Rudolfplatz shows residents and visitors strolling beneath the water sprays.

The sprinklers are part of the city's 'Cooling Cologne' campaign, launched in 2025 in partnership with local utility firm RheinEnergie.

The misting systems are installed in areas most affected by extreme heat and operate only when the German Weather Service issues official heat warnings.
