Germany national boss Joachim Low has slammed Schalke keeper Alexander Nubel after the youngster agreed to join Bayern Munich in the summer.
With the 23-year-old out of contract at the end of the season, Nubel has opted to swap the Veltins-Arena for the Allianz Arena in a highly controversial move.
However, the Schalke skipper may find his playing time at the German giants reduced with Manuel Neuer the undisputed number one at Bayern.
And it is that aspect of the move that has angered Low, who is believes promising stopper Nubel could see his development stunted as a result of his upcoming move.
"Basically, I am a supporter of young players getting as much playing time as possible. That way they can develop better," said Low at the New Year's reception of the German Football League.
"If a player is 20 or 21 and sits on the bench for two or three years, I don't know if that's useful."
Low's comments were the latest blow to Nubel after agreeing to a move which has caused plenty of controversy since it was announced last month.
The 23-year-old was only made Schalke captain at the start of the season, but was stripped of the armband after his summer move to Bayern came to light.
Nubel is yet to make his debut for the senior debut for the German national team, but has been a regular for their under-21s over the past couple of years.
The keeper's move to Bayern in the summer mirrors that of Neuer, who himself made the switch from Schalke to the Bundesliga giants in 2011.
The 33-year-old has since gone on to be a key component in Bayern's success in the years that have followed, helping them win seven league titles, four German Cups and the Champions League in 2013.
Neuer recently reiterated that he has no plans to retire anytime soon, meaning Nubel may have to contend with a place on the bench when he joins Bayern in the summer.
