German defender Michael Hefele gives Nottingham Forest positive injury boost

Nottingham Forest defender Michael Hefele is edging closer to fitness following his Achilles problem.

The German hasn’t played for the Reds since the New Year’s Day victory over Leeds United at the City Ground, but posted a picture of himself hooked up to an oxygen machine at the club’s training facility.

Posting on Instagram, the former Huddersfield promotion winner showed fans a picture of his rehabilitation on a cycling machine, as he continues his bid to get fit and force his way into Sabri Lamouchi’s plans.

It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old still has a future at the City Ground, having been told he was free to leave at the beginning of pre-season by boss Lamouchi and given the Reds' strength in depth, it remains unlikely and a move in January would appear possible.

Lamouchi told four players they were free to leave, with Hefele joining Liam Bridcutt, Daryl Murphy and Luke Steele in being made available.

Bridcutt, Murphy and Steele have all since made moves away from the City Ground.

Since his arrival, Hefele has made 18 appearances for Forest, having signed from the Terriers under Aitor Karanka’s stewardship.

In his stint at the John Smith’s Stadium, Hefele played 46 times for Town following his move from Dynama Dresden, before his switch to the City Ground last August, penning a three-year contract on Trentside.
