Georgia football received good news recently when quarterback Carson Beck and linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. committed to returning for the 2024 season. However, the question of his return remains unanswered for star tight end Brock Bowers.
The junior is widely considered a top-10 NFL draft pick by analysts after an incredibly productive three seasons in Athens. He could opt out of the Orange Bowl matchup against Florida State and declare for the draft, leaving the Dawgs without their leading receiver.
Bowers spoke to reporters about his situation at Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School in Athens on Tuesday.
“We’ll see. I don’t know,” Bowers told reporters. “I’m around, going to meetings, doing everything with the team. I’m not sure yet. Still have people to talk to and stuff like that.”
Bowers’ injury during the 2023 season is worth noting here. He missed two games due to an ankle injury that required TightRope surgery. Bowers clearly wasn’t at full strength at the end of the season.
Return or not, Bowers has cemented his name in UGA lore forever. He is one of three Bulldogs all-time to be named first-team All-American three times. Bowers is also the only player in history to receive the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end, twice.
Georgia will take on the Seminoles on Dec. 30 in Miami’s Hard-Rock Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and will be carried by ESPN.
