Georgia football to set 2020 student ticket allocation

After Georgia Athletics announced on Wednesday that attendance for the 2020 football season will be limited to 20 to 25 percent of Sanford Stadium capacity, Director of Athletics Greg McGarity and Senior Deputy Athletic Director Josh Brooks held a Zoom press conference to provide details on student tickets.

Student tickets will be distributed. McGarity estimated the student allotment to be about 20 percent of the normal allotment of 16,000 tickets, or 3,000 tickets. Students will be seated in their traditional place, in the northeast section of Sanford Stadium, and will observe 6-foot social distancing rules.

Brooks stated he will be meeting with student leadership today to confirm the allocation plan. He noted that fans will be required to wear masks into the stadium and while they are out of their seats, but it will not be necessary to wear them once they are seated and they maintain a six-foot distance from anyone not in their immediate party.

McGarity noted that a decision regarding tailgating is forthcoming. In addition, food and drink concessions in Sanford Stadium was not discussed. Most likely, fans without tickets will not be allowed to tailgate on University property, as parking will be limited to fans with tickets. No decision has been made as to the Redcoat Band and UGA cheerleaders participating in the game day experience. The traditional pre-game Dawg Walk is also undecided, but modifications would have to be implemented if the fan-favorite custom is to continue in 2020.
