Lewis Hamilton received a message of congratulations from Williams driver George Russell after winning the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The 23-year-old Williams, soon to be the teammate of the seven-time world champion, led the reaction on social media to the motorsport legend’s stunning win at the Brazilian GP.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Congrats Lewis, super impressive!”, before adding; “Congratulations @LewisHamilton, you’re an absolute beast!”
Other drivers sent words of encouragement to Hamilton, as Haas driver Nikita Mazepin wrote: “What a Performance man.”
While Carlos Sainz wrote: “Bravo Lewis” with a clapping emoji.
The Ferrari racer was one of the drivers Hamilton overtook en route to a stunning win at the Interlagos circuit on Sunday.
Hamilton had a rough ride in Sao Paulo after his weekend started strongly by qualifying fastest ahead of the sprint race, in front of a raucous crowd.
But things quickly changed as an FIA document revealed Hamilton had been summoned to the stewards regarding the rear wing on the Mercedes.
It all came after Red Bull lodged a complaint to the FIA about the rear wing on the Mercedes, with the FIA then impounding Hamilton's wing overnight regarding his drag reduction system (DRS).
The rear wing was found to have breached F1's technical regulations and was deemed illegal and Hamilton was disqualified from qualifying.
That meant Hamilton began Saturday's sprint race at the back of the grid, but was able to fight through the field to finish fifth in just 24 laps.
However, due to a five-place grid penalty following an engine change, the Brit began Sunday's race in 10th.
But the F1 icon showed his class and expertly stormed through the field before passing arch rival and race leader Max Verstappen on lap 59 to win a pulsating race.
An ecstatic Hamilton gave his assessment on the sensational win which reduced the gap in the title race to Verstappen to 14 points.
“Success always feels sweeter when you battle through adversity," Hamilton said post race. "This is one of the most beautiful feelings I've had. Knowing I've had all those setbacks, but we never let that stand in our way.”
He added: "From my own personal experience it's been one of the most challenging if not the most challenging with the things that we've faced during the weekend. In terms of driving it's maybe my best."
F1 heads to Qatar this coming weekend for the final race in what has been an epic triple header.
