Gender Reform committee suspended after interruption from campaigner

A SCOTTISH Parliament committee meeting on the reform of the Gender Recognition Act was briefly suspended after a campaigner interrupted the proceedings.

Following the contribution of Labour MSP Pauline McNeill, a person dressed in green and purple - the historical colours of the Suffragette movement - can be seen standing up and appears to begin making their own speech.

SNP MSP Joe FitzPatrick immediately suspended the proceedings and gestured for the person to be removed. The meeting resumed a few minutes later.

Two people who have gone through gender reassignment treatment and later regretted it – sometimes referred to as detransitioners – are due to share their thoughts on the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill today as the legislation moves through Stage 2 of parliamentary scrutiny.

A women wearing a scarf in the colours of the Suffragette flag was ejected from the same committee last week

The Presiding Officer for the Scottish Parliament later issued an apology to the woman and said the colours were not banned.

Many campaigners have attended today's meeting wearing the same colours.
