Gemma Atkinson has set the record straight on reports that she embarked on a “gruelling” mountain hike while expecting her first child with boyfriend Gorka Marquez.
The former Hollyoaks star shared a screen shot from an article which suggested that she’d completed a “gruelling climb” up Mount Teide while on holiday in Tenerife with her partner, and that she’d been “struck by sunburn” on the walk.
Slamming the claims, she wrote: “Wtf??? It wasn’t a ‘gruelling climb’ and I got burnt on my balcony reading. Why make s*** up??? Baffles me!”
Yesterday, the Hits Radio presenter posted a string of pictures from the excursion, which showed her and the Strictly Come Dancing professional smiling as they posed at the summit of the mountain.
In her caption, she shrugged off any criticism from the “pregnancy police” for hiking while pregnant, writing: “Last week me and Gorks climbed Mount Teide. It’s a drive, cable car and flat walk before the pregnancy police start on me.”
She also revealed that the spot has a particularly special significance for her, as she had previously visited with her father, who died when Atkinson was 17 years old.
“I haven’t been here since my dad passed away,” she wrote, adding: “We used to come every year and do that hike so it was bitter sweet, but I know he somehow helped drag me up there.”
Atkinson and Marquez met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, and started dating in early 2018.
They announced that they are expecting their first child back in February, confirming the happy news with the help of their beloved pet dogs Norman and Ollie.
The former soap star posted a photo of the pets brandishing signs which read: “Guess what… mum’s pregnant” We’re going to be big brothers!”
She has been keeping fans updated throughout the pregnancy with a string of Instagram posts, including some which detail her newly adapted workout routine.
