Gateshead newlyweds get wedding surprise from The Script before Utilita Arena gig

A Gateshead couple got a big surprise on their wedding day when The Script wished them congratulations on Newcastle Quayside.

Michelle and Nigel White were getting hitched at the Copthorne Hotel when photographer Zoe McKegney suggested they get some pictures in front of the Quayside's bridges. And the photos just happened to coincide with the band members of the Script taking a walk before their Greatest Hits gig at the Utilita Arena on Saturday night.

However, neither couple nor photographer recognised the Irish trio until singer Danny O'Donoghue removed his hood and sunglasses!

Michelle said: "We went outside and we saw them walking along and we were going to heckle them and say "you look like you're in a boy band." The guy turned round and asked if we wanted a photo and I didn't know who he was at first and when he took his hood down I was like oh yeah!"

"They were absolutely fab, absolutely lovely, they were so friendly! He said "I wouldn't say boy band, more like an old man band!"

Despite enjoying Danny's performance on the voice and him taking part in the wedding photos, nothing was going to change the couple's choice for their first dance. Michelle continued: "You'll laugh if I tell you what we had, it was Glenn Medeiros, Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You.

"I wouldn't say a massive fan (of the Script) but he (Danny)'s fit! My husband's rolling his eyes now..."

If you could choose any band to gate crash your wedding photos, who would it be? Let us know!

And The Script weren't the only surprise the couple got on their wedding day, with Michelle's cousin Jamie arriving from Hong Kong just three days before the wedding, as well as an auntie coming from Australia (though they couple knew about that). Unfortunately for most of their friends, by the time they came out for more photos, the Script had been and gone.

Michelle added: "We had the most fantastic day and we're so happy. Honestly it was the best day we've ever had, it was amazing."

The Leam Lane couple have now taken some well-earned time off for their honeymoon in Albir, Spain. It's their first break in three years, with Michelle working as a clerical officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead and Nigel an engineer with Karcher.

Michelle finished: "We're here for ten days and our only plan is to drink as much as we can and enjoy the sun. We haven't been away for about three years, so we just want to relax now because the last couple of weeks have been so stressful - we're just going to enjoy the lovely weather!"
