'Gateshead Guardiola' - Newcastle fans celebrate Graeme Jones' England Euro 2020 role

Newcastle United fans have celebrated Graeme Jones' unexpected call-up to work with England for the rearranged Euro 2020 tournament.

Gareth Southgate confirmed the Magpies' first-team coach will aid the Three Lions in their bid for glory this summer.

Jones and Southgate previously completed their Pro Licence course together, and the pair have remained in contact since.

The departure of England's striker coach Allan Russell has led to former Belgium assistant Jones being handed the opportunity to work with the Three Lions this summer.

Newcastle have confirmed the 51-year-old will return following the tournament to assist with Steve Bruce's preparations for the new season.

Following the announcement of England's 33-man provisional squad, Southgate told reporters: "I'm disappointed for Allan and for us that situation has occurred but we're really pleased to be able to bring Graeme Jones in, who is obviously working with Newcastle at the moment.

"I have known Graeme quite a while. He's got fantastic experiences of tournament football with Belgium, of course, with Roberto Martinez and great experiences as an assistant manager and a manager.

This is how Newcastle fans reacted to the news:

'Absolute scenes'

'Steve unavailable?'

Expectation versus reality

'Anyone doubting'

'Fine reward'

'Gateshead Guardiola'
