Gary Neville is still delighting in the news that the European Super League project has fallen flat on its face, and that his beloved Manchester United will no longer be in it.
Sky Sports pundit Neville was one of the fiercest critics of the plan for the 'Big Six' Premier League clubs to break away and join the new league, and both he and punditry partner Jamie Carragher laid into the rebels when it had become clear they were intent on signing up.
Given the fierce and correct criticism from fans, players, managers, media and government, all six club owners eventually backed down and were forced to withdraw with a series of humiliating statements on Tuesday evening.
For United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, the shambles has also brought forward his own exit from the club, with his resignation also announced on Tuesday evening. He will stay at United until the end of the season, however.
Woodward is said to have been one of the driving forces behind United's moves, but since his exit it is now being claimed that he didn't in fact support the Super League project.
BBC Sport report that Woodward tendered his resignation because he felt he couldn't support the controversial plan, something that Neville clearly doesn't agree with seeing as he quote tweeted journalist Simon Stone with a crying laughing emoji.
Neville then also retweeted a Man Utd fanzine account, which claimed that: "Ed Woodward briefing after he's announced he's leaving that he didn't believe in the thing we're led to believe he was negotiating for at least a year - is exactly what you'd expect Ed Woodward to brief now."
Neville's distrust in Woodward as a Man Utd executive has been well-known for a while, but he know hopes that the Super League failure leads to wider change in football.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Tuesday he said: "Ed Woodward knew his time in football was finished, probably this morning, and he’s probably done that (resigned) to keep away from the criticism that would’ve come his way in the next few months.
"However, Ed Woodward is the trunk of the tree, we now need to go for the roots."
