Sports pundit Gary Lineker’s The Rest Is Football podcast will return to Netflix across the upcoming Premier League season, it has been announced.
The podcast, which Lineker presents alongside former footballers Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, debuted on the streaming service earlier this year for coverage of the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
The trio provided debate and expert analysis on the major sporting event, which was hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, with daily episodes throughout the almost six-week-long tournament.
The sports talk show was highly popular during its 40-episode run, with Netflix saying it appeared in its daily top 10 TV chart every day – peaking at number one in the UK.
The Rest Is Football will return to the streaming service in August this year as the pundits provide coverage across the 2026 to 2027 Premier League season.
Lineker said: “We had a brilliant time making the show during the World Cup, and the response was incredible, so it’s great to be back on Netflix every week throughout the Premier League season.
“The Rest Is Football podcast will continue across the week too, while the Netflix show gives us another chance to get stuck into the biggest stories.
“Expect plenty of opinions, plenty of laughs and, with Alan and Micah involved, probably a few arguments as well.”
Netflix has said the series will continue to be produced by Goalhanger Podcasts, which Lineker co-founded in 2014.
The podcast production company are known for shows such as The Rest Is History, The Rest Is Politics, The Rest Is Entertainment and The Rest Is Football – which is one of the world’s biggest sports podcasts.
Former England striker Lineker, 65, is renowned for his 16-year football career in which he played for teams such as Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
He was also the top goal scorer at the 1986 Fifa World Cup.
Lineker previously hosted the BBC’s flagship football show Match Of The Day, but left the programme in May 2025 after a row following an Instagram post he made about Zionism, which featured a depiction of a rat, historically an antisemitic insult.
The sports broadcaster apologised for the post, adding that he did not see the rat visual and that he did not think “anyone actually believes I would’ve posted that”.
Lineker was the BBC’s highest-paid presenter, having headed up the show since 1999, and also fronted the broadcaster’s coverage of other major sporting events – including the 2012 London Olympics.
