Gary Lineker says Marcelo Bielsa has just done something Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp couldn't

Gary Lineker says Leeds United have achieved what Liverpool couldn't by putting West Brom to the sword in the first half of their game at the Hawthornes.

The Whites were unstoppable and led 4-0 at half-time after being given the lead by Romaine Sawyers' own goal before strikes from Ezgjan Alioski, Jack Harrison and Rodrigo added to the total.

It was an impressive performance from Marcelo Bielsa's side against a West Brom side who had won praise for their resolute performance against Liverpool 48 hours earlier.

Sam Allardyce's side drew 1-1 at Anfield, frustrating the hosts by packing men behind the ball in a formation Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp labelled '6-4-0'.

West Brom tried to do the same against Leeds but fell to pieces against the Whites' free-flowing football after Sawyers' own goal.

Tweeting after Harrison added a third, Lineker referred to a mini war-of-words between Klopp and Allardyce.

He said: "Another cracking goal from Leeds. They're now 3-0 up against West Brom in 35 minutes. Big Sam's right, Klopp couldn't do that."

Lineker was referencing Allardyce's claim that he had mastered being able to shut teams out and frustrate them tactically.

He told talkSPORT this week: "I’ve been able to master that over many years and that’s why I’ve been doing it so long.

"You can challenge the best in your league and you can challenge your tactics against theirs as, more often than not, recently, my players are seen as not as good as the opposition.

"We have to set out a tactical situation to nullify their strengths really and see what we can do by capitalising on what possession we get."
