Gary Lineker believes there is 'zero' chance of Ralf Rangnick having some influence on the Manchester United starting XI vs Chelsea on Sunday, as Gary Neville suggested.
United drew with the Premier League leaders 1-1 at Stamford Bridge but went ahead in the second-half after Jadon Sancho capitalised on a Jorginho mistake to race clear and coolly slot into the bottom corner.
However, the Chelsea midfielder would redeem himself as he scored from the spot after Aaron Wan-Bissaka kick Thiago Silva in the box.
It has been another promising display for United under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, though there was some controversy ahead of kick-off when Cristiano Ronaldo was named on the bench.
It was a big and unexpected call from Carrick that inevitably earned him some criticism from pundits and supporters alike.
Neville, however, moved to defend his former teammate as he believed that incoming interim manager Rangnick may have had a say on the team.
The former United captain tweeted: "A lot of people having a go at Michael Carrick for dropping Ronaldo and picking that MDF.
"I’ve a feeling the incoming manager has picked that team as it’s a huge departure from midweek and what they’ve been doing."
However, Lineker quickly moved to rebuff the claim and tweeted in response: "No chance of this being true. Zero."
It's understood that United have reached an agreement to appoint Rangnick on a six-month deal until the end of May, before then moving into a consultancy role at the club for an initial two-year period.
The German did not take charge against Chelsea due to work permit issues.
