Gary Lineker reacts to Harry Kane's penalty record as Tottenham star nets England hat-trick

Harry Kane was the star of the show has England beat Bulgaria to maintain their 100 per cent record in Euro 2020 qualification.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker scored a hat-trick and set up the other for Raheem Sterling as the Three Lions cruised to victory at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening.

Kane's latest goalscoring heroics means he's closing in on a record currently held by Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard .

What Kane did manage to achieve against Bulgaria was becoming the first player since Spurs legend Gary Lineker to score 23+ goals in his first 40 appearances for the England national team.

With 25 goals to his name for England, it might not be too long before Kane overtakes Lineker's total of 48.

At that point Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney's record of 53 will be in serious danger.

Should Kane continue to take penalties then it's hard to see him not becoming England's all-time record scorer before hanging up his boots.

In fact, he has scored five penalties in his last five appearances at Wembley Stadium for club and country.

A feat which Lineker had something to say about.

Taking to social media, the BBC Match of the Day pundit joked about the number of penalties he took during his England career.

"Hat-trick Harry. 2 penalties absolutely buried again," he tweeted. "I was England penalty taker for 8 years and only got 4 ( I think) in 80 games....yes, I know, I may have missed one as well."

Speaking of Kane and penalties, England boss Gareth Southgate revealed exactly why the Spurs ace is so prolific from 12 yards.

"He has an incredible process," Southgate told ITV after England's 4-0 triumph. "We watch him do it every day.

"He took a lot yesterday and we were very confident when we were sat on the bench, that's for sure!

"It's a brilliant example for any youngster on how to master a technique.

"You can see what he does, the way he composes himself and it's very, very difficult for goalkeepers to know where he's going to put them."
