Gary Lineker delivers Manchester City Champions League verdict

Manchester City had Gary Lineker purring about their performance against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola 's men played the second leg of their last 16 tie on Tuesday evening, leading 2-0 from the first leg.

Both games were played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest due to travel restrictions as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

City built on their advantage with excellent first-half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan.

It finished up 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate as the Premier League side booked their place in the quarter-finals.

De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a stunning long-range strike.

Gundogan added a second six minutes later, set up by Phil Foden, from a devastating counter attack.

Lineker was fronting live the live coverage of the match on BT Sport, alongside pundits Rio Ferdinand, Joleon Lescott and Owen Hargreaves.

And the former Leicester, Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham striker took to Twitter to hail City.

"Stunning goal from @DeBruyneKev. Kev being Kev," he tweeted.

Then, sharing a link to a video clip of the strike, he added: "The wonderful @DeBruyneKev goal for your delectation."

When Gundogan struck, Lineker posted: "Gorgeous @ManCity team goal makes it 2-0."

And alongside a video clip of the goal, he said: "This is how you break. Terrific stuff from @ManCity."

Real Madrid also went through as they beat Atalanta, joining City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Porto in the last eight.

Two more places are still up for grabs, with Chelsea leading Atletico Madrid 1-0 from the first leg, and Bayern Munich 4-1 up against Lazio.
