Gary Barlow plans supergroup with Spice Girls, Chris Martin, Little Mix and more

Gary Barlow has hatched one hell of a scheme for when we get back to normal.

The Take That star is plotting to form an A-list supergroup and has set his sights on Chris Martin, Little Mix, Brandon Flowers, Sugababes and The Spice Girls.

Doesn’t want much, does he?

Gary is keen to repeat the success of the Traveling Wilburys – an 80s supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty.

They got together in LA in 1988 and rocked the world for around three years.

Gary explains: “There’s never been another Traveling Wilburys – a gang that gets together and you write and film it all.

“You write for two weeks in a studio in Nashville, take it on the road for six months… it’d be brilliant. I’d love that.”

Gazza reckons he would call the band Group Therapy – which, let’s be honest, is something we could all do with right now.

Revealing his dream line-up, Gary joked to Chris Evans on his How to Wow podcast : “So Andy Burrows on drums, the keyboard player from Snow Patrol who has written some of Ed Sheeran ’s biggest tracks.

“Then we’d have a mixture –some of the Sugababes with some of Little Mix with maybe even a Spice Girl – as our beautiful backing vocals, which would be awesome.

“I’d have to have Jeff Lynne on guitar. And then we’ve got to get Chris Martin up front.

"And Brandon as well from the Killers.”

If Gary has his way, the group would follow in the footsteps of Gorillaz, McBusted and LSD.

He adds: “We could all fly to Nashville and film the writing and recording. It’d be an amazing documentary. I think it’d be awesome.”

Ever the optimist…
