Garth goes full-circle in Australian squad for Ireland

Kim Garth could face off against her mother country in an international match for the first time after being named in Australia's ODI squad to tour Ireland in July.

The Dublin-born quick emigrated to Australia in 2020 to pursue a professional cricket career and has since represented the country in all three formats, having previously played international cricket for Ireland between 2010 and 2019.

Garth missed selection in the Tri-Nation series when Australia faced Ireland ahead of the Commonwealth Games last year but did play in a T20 World Cup warm-up match against the country in February.

If she was to line up in any of the three ODIs to be played in Dublin on July 23, 25 or 28 she would be playing in her first fully fledged international against her country of birth.

The matches will be Australia's first in Ireland since 2015, when Garth faced off against current international teammates Ellyse Perry, Grace Harris, Alyssa Healy and Jess Jonassen.

"She's worked incredibly hard to earn her place on this tour and there's no doubt it will be a unique experience for her," head selector Shawn Flegler said of Garth.

The ODI squad is largely the same as that which is touring England in the multi-format Ashes but Megan Schutt will be rested ahead of a busy summer.

Fellow quick Heather Graham has been promoted from the Australia A squad in her place, while former captain Meg Lanning remains unavailable for medical reasons.

All three games will be played at Castle Avenue in Dublin.

"Taking on an emerging Ireland team in their home conditions will be a great challenge for our team off the back of an Ashes campaign," Flegler said.
