Garth Crooks makes bizarre Alisson claim over goal questioned by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Garth Crooks has claimed Enock Mwepu's freak goal at Anfield was intentional - because the Brighton midfielder had spotted the sun was blinding Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

With the Reds 2-0 ahead approaching half-time in Saturday's Premier League match, Mwepu brought the Seagulls back into the game when he looped the ball from deep over the outstretched arm of Alisson.

And while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed afterwards he was "not sure if it was a cross or not", Crooks was in no doubt about the intentions of the Zambia international.

"What a performance by Mwepu," said Crooks. "As for his goal, well it was quite brilliant.

"When Jason Mohammad asked me on Final Score if I think he meant it, I was flabbergasted.

"Mwepu had a look at Alisson and saw the sun was blinding the Liverpool goalkeeper before he went for it. It was sheer spontaneous brilliance."

Mwepu was named by Crooks in his team of the week for the BBC, although the former Tottenham Hotspur striker has explained why he chose to omit Leandro Trossard, who scored the second-half equaliser to earn Brighton a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

"I must also mention Adam Lallana, who was excellent on his Anfield return, along with Leandro Trossard," he added.

"But I can't bring myself to select Trossard even though he was outstanding - as I hate false number nines."
