Furious families in a North Ayrshire village are rallying to save a popular children's park trashed by vandals.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to help pay for repairs after mindless yobs smashed up play equipment and picnic tables in the grounds of the Garnock Valley Fitness Centre in Glengarnock.
Sickened fitness centre boss Thomas Payne, who built the play area himself two years ago, discovered the trail of destruction on Tuesday morning.
And within hours of him sharing images of the mindless damage on social media, outraged residents kickstarted a fundraising campaign to ensure the park isn't lost to the community.
Thomas, who reckons between £500 and £1,000 worth of damage was caused, said: "The reaction I've had from people has been brilliant.
"I think everyone is just disgusted by what's happened.
"I initially built the park for families who use the centre but it's become really popular with the local community over the years.
"It's just a nice wee place for families to come and that's something I'm really proud of.
"It was mobbed on Saturday with kids out enjoying themselves so to see it wrecked just a few days later was sickening.
"Whoever did this tried to destroy everything under the cover of darkness.
"When I first saw the damage I felt like just removing all the equipment but if enough money can be raised I'll happily do the work to get the park back up to scratch."
