Chris Sutton has told Gareth Southgate he's made a mistake by including Ollie Watkins ahead of Patrick Bamford in his provisional 33-man squad.
The Leeds United striker netted 17 Premier League goals this season, with only three players in the division scoring more.
Despite a prolific campaign with the Whites, Bamford was snubbed by Southgate for England's extended European Championships squad, which will be chopped down to 26.
Instead, the Three Lions boss opted for Aston Villa's Watkins and Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, who scored 21 goals between them this year.
Naming his 26-man England squad, Sutton explained how he believes Bamford should make the cut for the Euros squad, never mind the extended group.
"I would have liked to see Patrick Bamford make the 26-man squad, let alone the 33," he wrote in the Daily Mail.
"But Watkins won the race because he’s enjoyed a great season and is a good all-rounder."
On Kalvin Phillips involvement, he added: "What a debut season he’s had in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.
"If England’s full-backs fly forward, Phillips is great at knowing when and where to provide cover."
Former Leeds loanee Ben White was handed a surprise first call-up by Southgate after impressing for Brighton & Hove Albion.
Sutton, though, believes the 23-year-old is one for the future and will be culled for the final 26-man party.
"Well this one came out of the blue, didn’t it?" he wrote.
"White is a talented boy and like Godfrey, he is versatile. He can play in defence or midfield, and that probably cost Eric Dier his place."
