Gardai seize drugs worth millions of euros in major pre-Christmas raids

Gardai have seized drugs worth millions of euros during raids in Dublin and Galway.

Five men were arrested in connection with the separate operations, which took place yesterday.

Shortly after 2pm, officers intercepted two vehicles and searched a home in the south Dublin inner city area, as well as a business premises in west Dublin.

During the course of the operation, they found 120kg of cannabis herb, which they say has an estimated street value of €2.4 million.

Four men, aged 25, 39, 39 and 46, were arrested in relation to drug trafficking activity and are currently detained at Kevin Street Garda Station and Irishtown Garda Station.

Gardai say the operation was part of an ongoing investigation targeting organised crime activity.

In a separate operation in Galway city, gardai searched a home in Newcastle last night.

They found cocaine worth an estimated €70,000.

A man aged in his 40s was arrested at the scene and taken to Galway Garda Station. He has since been released without charge with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A Garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing into both operations.
