Gardai raid suspected sheebeen as bar taps and 'substantial' amount of alcohol seized

Gardai raided a suspected shebeen in a quiet Irish town over the weekend.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Saturday night in the town of Castleblaney, Co Monaghan.

Officers carried out the search on a private premises as part of Operation Navigation.

They carried out the investigation as part of alleged breaches of liquor licencing legislation.

The search, carried out under a warrant, saw gardai seize "substantial quantities" of alcohol, as well as beer taps and other bar equipment.

While all of those present were identified by gardai, no arrests have yet been made.

A garda spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing and a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"The COVID-19 Pandemic remains a public health crisis and An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all citizens to comply with Public Health Guidelines and Regulations in order to continue to save lives."
