Gardai make second arrest following stabbing in Ballyphehane which left man hospitalised with serious injures

Gardai have made a second arrest in connection with the stabbing incident in Ballyphehane last week.

A man, in his late teens, was detained at Togher Garda Station and released without charge for a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai went on the hunt after two gangs armed with bats and knives clashed at Pearse Square on Monday night, CorkBeo reports.

One man, in his early 20s, was rushed to CUH with serious stab wounds and had to get surgery the next morning.

The shocking incident happened after a gang from Togher came to Ballyphehane and met another group in the area.

A big fight kicked off before the man was stabbed and a number of people fled the scene. Officers rushed down and sealed off the area before a full forensic examination took place.

They also took CCTV from nearby premises. On Saturday, a man in his 20s was arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

Gardai said of the second arrest: "A second person has been arrested in connection with this incident.

"The man in his late teens was detained at Togher Garda Station and released without charge for a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in the early hours of this morning Sunday 12th April 2020."
