Gardai launch search operation after man 'seen entering water' in Dungarvan, Co Waterford

Emergency services have launched a search operation after a person was seen entering the water in Co Waterford.

The incident happened in the Dungarvan area of the county late on Thursday night.

Gardai were alerted to reports that a person had been spotted in trouble at around midnight.

The RNLI and the Rescue 117 helicopter are understood to have assisted in the operation.

Local station WLRfm reports that the search is continuing this morning with the Coast Guard set to participate in a further operation later this afternoon.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are currently carrying out searches following reports of a person entering the water in Dungarvan, Co Waterford.

"No further information at this time."
