Gardai issue full list of traffic restrictions during Joe Biden's visit as drivers urged to plan accordingly

US President, Joe Biden, arrived in Ireland after touching down in Belfast on Tuesday night for the first leg of his four-day trip.

Gardai have been warning the public to expect road closures and traffic delays for the duration of his stay across a number of counties.

Officers have confirmed the full list of disruptions across Louth and into Dublin so that drivers can adjust their routes accordingly.

On April 12, the visit will primarily be concentrated in Co Louth from early afternoon and traffic management details are as follows:

The 46th President of the United States of America will arrive in Co Louth from Dublin Airport on the afternoon of April 12.

The following Traffic Management measures, for security reasons, will be put in place.

From 10pm on Tuesday, April 11 until after departure on Wednesday April 12, parking restrictions and road closures will commence in Carlingford:

• Public Car Park – Tourist Office

• Dundalk Street

• North Pier

• Newry Street

• Old Quay Lane

• Castle Hill & Back Lane

• R173 Greenore Road

Further road closures will be in place on access routes, R173, R175, R176, to Carlingford, north, and south of the Village will be implemented on the morning of April 12, with times to be confirmed.

From 10pm on Tuesday, April 11 until after departure on Wednesday April 12 parking restrictions and road closures will commence in Dundalk:

• Barrack Street

• Seatown Place

• Jocelyn Street

• Roden Place

• Crowe Street

• Clanbrassil Street

• Market Square

• Francis Street

• Park Street

• Dublin Road

The M1 motorway remains unaffected.

The N52 (Inner relief Road) will largely be unaffected, subject to change by operational demands on Wednesday 12 April.

Then from 6pm on Wednesday April 12, there will be traffic restrictions/temporary closure along the R173, R175, N52 between Carlingford and Dundalk.

There are no public events in the Dublin Region.

Dublin City Centre remains open for business.

The 46th President of the United States of America will arrive at Dublin Airport on the afternoon of April 12.

Normal operations will continue at Dublin Airport at all times, however, members of the public travelling through Dublin Airport at this time should allow additional time to arrive at the airport due to possible additional security patrols in the vicinity of Dublin Airport.

Then, from 5pm on Wednesday until 5pm on Thursday, April 13, Phoenix Park will be closed to all access, traffic and pedestrians.

Arrangements are in place for local access (work/business/residents ONLY/NO recreational access).

From 7pm on Wednesday, April 12 until evening Thursday, April 13, road closures will be in place at the following locations:

• Kildare Street

• Molesworth St

• Merrion Street

• Merrion St Upper

• Fitzwilliam Lane

• School House Lane*

• Merrion Sq West

• Merrion Sq South

Finally, from 8am on Thursday, April 13, road closures will be in place at the following locations:

• Ship Street

• Castle Street

• Palace Street (closed to pedestrians)

On the afternoon of Friday, April 14, the 46th President of the United States of America will depart Dublin Airport for Ireland West Airport.

Normal operations will continue at Dublin Airport at all times, however, members of the public travelling through Dublin Airport at this time should allow additional time to arrive at the airport due to possible additional security patrols in the vicinity of Dublin Airport.
