Gardai breathalyse over 500 drivers and arrest two in massive Good Friday checkpoint in Kildare

Two motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated last night during a massive Good Friday traffic operation in north Kildare.

A total of 19 checkpoints are carried out as part of Operation Surround, leading to five cars being seized and 45 other minor offences detected.

In north Kildare alone, more than 500 motorists were breathalysed, with two arrested for "driving while intoxicated", Dublin Live reports.

A post on the official Garda Twitter account showed that one of the drivers tested positive for cannabis.

Dublin driver's excuse for not having tax or insurance doesn't wash with gardai

The tweet said: "Over 500 motorists tested and two arrested for 'driving while intoxicated' on Friday night during a road traffic operation in north Kildare.

"A total of 19 checkpoints were carried out, five cars seized and 45 other minor offences detected as part of Operation Surround."
