Gardai arrest speeding disqualified driver in Dundalk who was driving at 143km/h

Gardai nabbing a speeding driver who was 23km/h over the legal limit - and then discovered the person was disqualified from driving eight years pror.

Officers from the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit in Co Louth, stopped the motorist who was clocked driving at 143km/h,  breaking the 120km/h speed limit.

A spokesperson said:"It transpired that the driver had been disqualified eight years ago when their details were checked on the mobility app.

"The vehicle was seized and the driver was arrested."

Meanwhile, a second disqualified driver was caught in Co Longford after they were seen "driving suspiciously."

Longford Roads Policing Unit used the Mobility App to established that the motorist was not meant to be on the roads.

The official Garda Traffic account tweeted: "The vehicle was seized and court proceedings to follow."

And a number of speeding drivers were hit with fines in Co Meath after gardai clocked motorists driving as fast as 160km/h on the M4 on Sunday.

A spokesperson said: "Meath Roads Policing detected a number of vehicles travelling well in excess of the speed limit.

"Fixed charge notices were issued on the spot using the Garda Active Mobility Device."
