Garda 'struck in the face' by anti-vax protester outside Leinster House

Two anti-vax protesters were arrested outside Leinster House this afternoon for allegedly being "verbally abusive and physically threatening" to gardai.

While being arrested, the two men, who are in their 40's and 60's, "assaulted" gardai

A garda spokesperson alleged one officer was "struck in the face" while another was "struck in the neck".

Gardai used pepper spray on the protesters who were then taken to Pearse Street garda station.

The two officers received medical treatment for their injuries.

Demonstrators from the same group that gathered outside Leinster House then marched to the home of Leo Varadkar and held a protest that ended "peacefully" at about 6:30pm.

A garda spokesperson told Dublin Live that the two men arrested outside Leinster House have been charged.

The spokesperson said: "The male in his 60s has since been charged and bailed to appear in District Court 3, CCJ on the 17th November 2021.

"The man in his 40s has been charged to appear in District Court 3, CCJ tomorrow morning Friday, 22nd October 2021."
