Garage stabbing accused locked up

A MAN, 29, has been refused bail accused of stabbing a 37-year-old four times in a garage at Hawks Nest on Saturday.

Corey Cox, 29, appeared in Newcastle Bail Court on Sunday charged with affray, armed with intent and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He did not enter any pleas and was refused bail by a registrar.

Mr Cox will next appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court on Tuesday.

Police said emergency services were called to Mirreen Street, Hawks Nest, about midday on Saturday and found a man, 37, who had been attacked in his garage.

The man had suffered four stab wounds to his left arm and left leg and was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains after undergoing surgery.

Police said a man, 29, was arrested at the scene and taken to Maitland police station where he was charged with affray, armed with intent and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police said a kitchen knife was seized at the scene and has been taken for forensic examination.
