Gannett, the largest newspaper chain in the US with 90 titles, plans to create stories with information from bloggers and other net users. The company is evidently hoping that "citizen journalism" will reverse its papers' declining sales and advertising revenues. Michael Maness, a Gannett vice president, said: "It's a fairly fundamental restructuring of how we go about news and information on a daily basis." It is planned to create a "newsroom of the future" - an "information centre" - which will be divided into seven areas: public service, digital, data, community conversation, local, custom content and multimedia. Gannett also plans to merge newspaper and online operations at its national title, USA Today, with other publications. See Jeff Jarvis's response. </(Via San Francisco Chronicle)
