A Gambian journalist who has spent two months in prison without being charged has finally been released on bail. Lamin Fatty was arrested after writing a story in Banjul's bi-weekly Independent which, apparently incorrectly, claimed that a former interior minister was among those arrested in an alleged coup plot. The paper's director, Madi Ceesay, and editor, Musa Saidykhan, were also held for three weeks. The Independent has been shut on police orders since March 28. (Via IOL: West Africa)
