Gabriel Slonina sends Chelsea message following £12m transfer to join 'best club in London'

New signing Gabriel Slonina has sent a message to Chelsea fans after the 18-year-old completed a £12million transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Todd Boehly has been hard at work in the transfer market as he looks to back Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2022/23 season. Chelsea face Everton at the weekend as the new Premier League season kicks off, with new signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly both expected to be in action.

The Blues confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Carney Chukwuemeka as their next summer signing from Aston Villa in a £20million deal. Chelsea then announced the arrival of Slonina from Chicago Fire, with the talented youngster set to return to the MLS side on-loan for the upcoming season.

Slonina is considered to be one of the most promising talents having kept 13 clean sheets in his debut season in the MLS. The teenager played every minute of Chicago Fire's 2022 league campaign, making a total of 34 appearances.

The 18-year-old has already pleased Chelsea fans with a classy message posted on social media following the announcement of his signing. Slonina tweeted: "Honoured to join such a massive club with so much history.

"It’s a privilege to wear the badge of the best side in London. Thank you to all the fans for the warm welcome. Can’t wait to get started."

Slonina will hope to continue his development with Chicago in the MLS before returning to Stamford Bridge at the start of 2023. With Kepa Arrizabalaga linked with a move away to Napoli this summer, Slonina could become Edouard Mendy's deputy halfway through the 2022/23 campaign upon his return in January.
