Gabriel Agbonlahor backtracks on Leeds United with odd Marcelo Bielsa claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has backtracked on Leeds United after begrudgingly praising their end to the season.

The former Aston Villa forward labelled the Whites "a myth" earlier in the season, whilst calling out Marcelo Bielsa for being "naive", much to the annoyance of the Leeds fan base.

In the second half of the season, Leeds have kept clean sheets against Manchester United and Chelsea, whilst restricting Manchester City and Liverpool to one goal each.

One defeat in 11 matches saw Leeds finish in ninth place and above Aston Villa, as the form team in the division.

As a result, Agbonlahor has been forced to eat humble pie, though he claims Bielsa has changed his methods, despite the Leeds boss still persisting with all-out-attack football.

“At that time, the way they were playing, it was a bit basketball match," Agbonglahor told talkSPORT.

"I remember the game against Manchester United where they lost 6-1, I was watching the game and thinking ‘you can’t do this and you’re going to get some bad results'.

“For the last half of the season, they’ve changed their way and been so strong defensively. I think Bielsa has learnt you can’t play man-to-man against the likes of Rashford and Sterling and get these results.

“They’ve adjusted their game, still with the attacking threat they’ve got, and for half of the season they’ve been outstanding.”

Agbonlahor also previously declared that Villa boss Dean Smith was more deserving of praise than Bielsa.

“Everyone is getting excited about Bielsa, but if you’re getting that excited by Bielsa, you must be putting the red carpet down for Dean Smith," he said.

“Maybe because he’s English we don’t get too excited by him, but what he’s doing, tactics-wise, at Aston Villa, he deserves a lot of credit.

“I feel like people need to calm down with Leeds United at the moment.”
