GAA star Naomi Smith aiming for body building glory after winning London competition

GAA star Naomi Smith is looking to make waves in the world of professional female body building after recently winning a competition in London.

Naomi, 23, who is a former inter-county Cavan footballer, won her pro card at the World Beauty Fitness and Fashion last week and is now aiming to win a world title.

The win means that she qualifies for the World Beauty Fitness and Fashion World's in August of next year and says she wants to be the first Irish competitor to take home the title.

According to RSVP Live, Naomi started her fitness journey playing Gaelic football with her local GAA team, Kililinkere GFC.

She then joined her local gym during the GAA off-season.

Speaking to the Irish Sun she said: “Getting a pro card was great but that’s not my end goal. I want to win a world title.

“No one in Ireland has got close to winning the female Worlds. I’d love to be that person.

“I’d be happy to finish in the top ten and then build from it and go on to win it.

“I train five to six times a week. The most time off I’ve had in a row is four days, that was at Christmas.

“Bodybuilding has become so popular now and some people do it just to compete, but I love training.

“It’s never a chore for me because I’ve always loved sport and had a passion for keeping fit.”

Days after winning her pro card she was back on the football pitch for Killinkere.

She said: “I had to give up football a couple of weeks before the competition as I didn’t want to get injured.

“I had put in so much work for the past year so I didn’t want something to happen at the last minute that would stop me competing.

“You’re always covered in bruises and marks from playing so I didn’t want that when I had to be in a bikini and tanned.

“I was back in my boots and shorts a week later.”
