Both G2 Esports and Gen.G were pushed off to the lower bracket in VALORANT Masters Toronto, where they faced each other on June 17. With tournament life on the line, the VCT Americas champions pulled off one of the greatest comebacks and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against the Pacific giants.
Both teams secured their own map picks (Lotus for G2 and Haven for Gen.G), taking the match to the decider map, Icebox, where all the nail-biting action took place.
Gen.G started on a strong note, and they even led 11-4 at one point. However, the tables totally turned in G2’s favor.
G2 won nine straight rounds to claim the 13-11 victory and the 2-1 series win. JonahP and leaf played a crucial role on Viper and Killjoy, respectively, spearheading G2’s chokehold on Gen.G’s retakes during the second half.
Ash and t3xture tried their best, but Gen.G couldn’t manage to win despite having a sensational start, and they were ultimately eliminated from Master Toronto. They secured the fifth place, winning $50,000 and 2 VCT Points.

Fans couldn’t believe Gen.G would lose from 11-4
On the official VALORANT subreddit, a thread contains various fan reactions, from comparing them to PRX and to being sarcastic, they’re having it all there.
A player commented, “Gen.G cosplaying PRX,” to which another fan agreed and added, “PRX’s throws are stupider, but in terms of mental strength, they’re above Gen.G because they’re so used to the throws that they keep making their plays even after throwing a few rounds.”
Some fans think Gen.G needs a “mental or performance coach” after this choking defeat against G2 Esports. Another fan thinks that after Gen.G had a roster shuffle in 2024, “they lose a few rounds in a row, and they kiss winning that map goodbye.” The fan even added: “I don’t think I’ve seen a team with a more sh*t mental.”
G2 will next face FNATIC (who defeated Sentinels 2-1) in the lower bracket round three on June 20. If they win against the EMEA Stage 1 winners, they will move on to play the lower bracket final on June 21.
