G2 flip the script, sweep Gen.G 3-0 to reach FST 2026 finals

G2 Esports didn’t just beat Gen.G today, they tore through the tournament’s most dominant Korean team and flipped the entire narrative of FST 2026 on its head.

Coming in against an undefeated LCK first seed that looked untouchable coming into the knockout stage, G2 delivered a ruthless 3-0 sweep in the semifinals, booking their place in the finals with one of the biggest upsets of the year.

Gen.G entered the series widely considered the clear favorites to win it all. But from the opening game with Hans Sama’s first blood, G2 dictated the pace, matched their opponents mechanically, and outmaneuvered them in key macro moments, making it a one-sided affair.

The series never truly felt within Gen.G’s control. G2 came in prepared with confident drafts and a willingness to fight early, repeatedly punishing Gen.G’s setups before they could scale into comfort. Every attempt from Gen.G to stabilize was met with sharp cross-map responses and clean teamfighting from the LEC side.

By game two, the pressure had clearly shifted. Gen.G, a team known for its composure, began to look uncharacteristically out of sync. They put Kiin on Vayne top, but Brokenblade navigated well around that pick to give G2 a great frontline for the fights. Meanwhile, G2 only grew more decisive, accelerating leads and closing games without giving their opponents room to breathe.

The decider had Gen.G pull up their meta late-game picks, but G2 sealed it with their jungler and enchanter bot lane, not just as a win, but as a statement. G2 showed no hesitation, no nerves, just complete control as they completed the sweep and handed Gen.G their first loss of the tournament, and their exit.

Gen.G didn’t lose a single series this year, and the complete wipeout by G2 Esports is also visible through stats, where their opponents couldn’t break a single tier two tower to make their siege into the European Nexus. Coming into FST 2026, G2 were seen as underdogs, but not the favorites, especially against a Gen.G roster that had dominated its path through the event.

More than just a semifinal victory, this was a momentum-shifting performance. G2 didn’t rely on a miracle run; they dismantled one of the strongest teams in the world across three straight games. Their run at FST 2026 wasn’t perfect: they won their first match but lost 0-3 against BLG, but they bounced back against BFX and now GenG to eliminate both the Koreans teams from the event.

With this win, G2 makes its way to the grand finals with confidence and the belief that it can take down anyone left in the bracket. They’ll face the winner of the BLG/JDG match. For the European squad, they’ll appear in an international final after MSI 2019.

If this series proved anything, it’s that the gap everyone expected between regions might not be as wide as it once seemed.
