Future Redskins’ DE Chase Young declares for 2020 NFL Draft

Generational defensive end Chase Young has officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, and the Washington Redskins’ fortunes have officially turned.

With the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, the Redskins are all-but cemented as the next team that Young will play for, and he is expected to be one of the best defensive prospects to come out of the draft in years. In his time at OSU, he finished his senior season with 16.5 sacks and six forced fumbles.

Though the Redskins of course could opt out of Young, and rather choose to trade back in the draft for a multitude of picks, that would seem ridiculous. Yes, they drafted Montez Sweat, a defensive end, in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and yes, they do have Ryan Kerrigan still on the roster. However, you just don’t pass up on drafting a generational talent like Young. Add in the strange success that defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has had with pass-rushers drafted No. 2 overall, and it’s a no-brainer.

It was unclear in December whether or not Young would actually declare for the draft, based on his comments about a decision yet to be made. However, with the recent news, it now seems like the Redskins got their guy. May quarterbacks in the NFC East be doomed for many years to come.
