Further 3,685 Covid cases confirmed in Ireland as Dr Holohan sends warning

Another 3,685 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Ireland in the last 24 hours.

As of 8am today there is 444 Covid patients in hospital with 74 of those in ICU.

It comes as Dr Tony Holohan says people should "feel empowered to leave" hospitality spots if they don't ask for Covid certs.

Recent surveys have shown that many people are not being asked for the vaccine certificates upon entry to establishments despite the guidelines.

And with cases rising, the Chief Medical Officer wants people to consider dining or drinking elsewhere if certs aren't required.

The CMO tweeted this morning: "If you are in an an environment where you're not asked for your Covid cert or where hand washing facilities are not present, or mask wearing is not as it should be - you should look at that as a riskier environment than it should be, and you should feel empowered to leave."

Dr Holohan also asked those who have not been vaccinated to come forward.

The CMO added: "If you haven't yet been vaccinated, or if it's time for your booster, please ensure to come forward for that vaccine. Our individual behaviour and adherence to all the basic public health advice that we are so familiar with has worked over the course of this pandemic.

"We need to continue to focus on the importance of basic hand washing, wearing of masks, social distancing, recognising risk environments, and being aware of the kinds of activities that we’re involved in that do constitute a higher risk of transmission."
